2. Stage 2. The patient is covered with a cooling blanket to avoid overheating. The heated medication is administered into the patient’s abdominal cavity through the tubes. It is then left inside the abdomen for 1 to 1.5 hours. When reaching cancerous cells at all possible locations, the chemotherapy agent destroys them and thus prevents cancer recurrence.
3. Stage 3. The chemotherapy agent is removed, and the abdominal cavity is washed with normal saline. Then, the surgeon uses sutures to close the incision.
4. After the procedure, patients receive nutrition intravenously or through a tube for about 2 weeks. This is needed to help the gastrointestinal tract recover following the intensive chemotherapy. Afterwards, the patient slowly returns to their daily life including normal eating.
