“It is always nice to see a patient who used to move with difficulty walk by themselves, without a cane or a walking frame. I specialize in orthopedic surgery, particularly in total joint replacement. I perform direct hip joint replacement and implantation of customized knee prostheses.
Besides, I perform revision surgery, or repeated joint replacement after an unsuccessful procedure carried out by other physicians.
People tolerate pain differently, and patients come to us in different times of their lives. In my opinion, before joint replacement, a patient should try all the non-surgical arthritis treatments. These include medication, change of activity level, and weight loss. If nothing helps, joint replacement may be considered. If the knee pain affects sleep, if the patient has trouble walking to a store or they struggle to cope with simple, everyday tasks, I recommend weighing all pros and cons and consider the possibility of joint replacement.
The healthier the patient, the lower the risk of complications. Prior to the joint replacement procedure, physicians analyze 6 different factors. Specialists should know if you suffer from any comorbidities or digestion problems. Some other factors are also important.
Many people’s idea of knee joint replacement is not exactly correct. We do not want to remove large bone fragments; we only remove a small piece from each of the adjoining bones. The surgeon makes very precise movements. They make 5-6 incisions in the bone and covers it with new material. Afterwards, the doctor places a piece of plastic into the space between the bones. As a result, knee movements become smooth and painless.”
