DIAGNOSIS

• HyFoSy (Hysterosalpingo-Foam Sonography)

HyFoSy is a modern ultrasound method of tubal patency evaluation. It is used to determine the cause of infertility.

In about 30% of cases, women do not become pregnant because of complete or partial fallopian tube obstruction. In the past, X-rays of the uterus was the only way to diagnose this condition. It is a very painful procedure because it requires stretching of the cervix and uterus. Moreover, during X-rays the woman receives a dose of radiation.

The HyFoSy procedure is absolutely safe; it uses ultrasound instead of X-rays and special gel ExEm instead of the contrast agent. The gel makes foam. It its administered into the uterine cavity through a catheter. Then, during transvaginal ultrasound, the specialist watches the foam move through the fallopian tubes. The procedure takes about 30 minutes, does not require anesthesia and is done on the outpatient basis. According to medical literature, HyFoSy provides precision comparable to that of the X-rays.

• “See-and-Treat” Hysteroscopy

A hysteroscopy is an examination of the uterine cavity with an endoscopic device, or a hysteroscope, equipped with a light and a tiny video camera. Hysteroscopy may be diagnostic or therapeutic. The modern procedure combines both these functions.

The Department of Gynecology specialists started practicing the state-of-the-art “see-and-treat” hysteroscopy. This procedure begins as a diagnostic hysteroscopy. However, if the doctor spots any polyps or other growths, they will be removed immediately. Unlike traditional hysteroscopy, this procedure does not require anesthesia, neither general nor local, because the thickness of the hysteroscope introduced into the uterine cavity is less than 3mm.

TREATMENT METHODS

HDR-BRAVOS Brachytherapy For Gynecologic Cancer

Brachytherapy is internal radiation therapy that involves placement of a radiation source into the body, near the malignant tumor. This treatment method is effectively used in patients with cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and vaginal cancer.

In 2019, the brachytherapy center, part of the radiation therapy department, received unique HDR-BRAVOS equipment produced by Varian. This radiation therapy system is the most advanced in the world.

Right now, HDR-BRAVOS is only used for treatment of gynecologic tumors. Higher precision and safety of the procedure are the main advantages of the innovational equipment:

• HDR-BRAVOS is fitted with a LED system of radiation precision control. It allows the doctor to control the precision of radiation and monitor the patient by looking at the screen.
• Insertion of an applicator with radioactive material is remote: the device puts the applicator into the tumor at predetermined depth and then removes it without a radiologist. Thus, neither doctor nor patient gets exposed to unnecessary amounts of radiation.

The reliability and accuracy of the HDR-BRAVOS system have been proved in clinical trials.

SURGERY

• Laparoscopic Procedures

Laparoscopy is one of the minimally invasive, or so-called “keyhole”, surgical methods. It involves operating through small punctures with the help of a specialized endoscopy technique. Laparoscopic surgical interventions are performed through punctures in the abdominal wall. Surgery is commonly used for the following conditions:

• Uterine fibroids;
• Endometriosis;
• Ovarian cyst removal;
• Abnormal menstrual bleeding;
• Pelvic pain of unknown origin.

In gynecology, laparoscopy is used with both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

• SILS Surgery
