- HyFoSy (Hysterosalpingo-Foam Sonography)
HyFoSy is a modern ultrasound method of tubal patency evaluation. It is used to determine the cause of infertility.
In about 30% of cases, women do not become pregnant because of complete or partial fallopian tube obstruction. In the past, X-rays of the uterus was the only way to diagnose this condition. It is a very painful procedure because it requires stretching of the cervix and uterus. Moreover, during X-rays the woman receives a dose of radiation.
The HyFoSy procedure is absolutely safe; it uses ultrasound instead of X-rays and special gel ExEm instead of the contrast agent. The gel makes foam. It its administered into the uterine cavity through a catheter. Then, during transvaginal ultrasound, the specialist watches the foam move through the fallopian tubes. The procedure takes about 30 minutes, does not require anesthesia and is done on the outpatient basis. According to medical literature, HyFoSy provides precision comparable to that of the X-rays.
- “See-and-Treat” Hysteroscopy
A hysteroscopy is an examination of the uterine cavity with an endoscopic device, or a hysteroscope, equipped with a light and a tiny video camera. Hysteroscopy may be diagnostic or therapeutic. The modern procedure combines both these functions.
The Department of Gynecology specialists started practicing the state-of-the-art “see-and-treat” hysteroscopy. This procedure begins as a diagnostic hysteroscopy. However, if the doctor spots any polyps or other growths, they will be removed immediately. Unlike traditional hysteroscopy, this procedure does not require anesthesia, neither general nor local, because the thickness of the hysteroscope introduced into the uterine cavity is less than 3mm.
Studies show that this method allows effective removal of small polyps in women of reproductive age.

HDR-BRAVOS Brachytherapy for Gynecologic Cancer
Brachytherapy is internal radiation therapy that involves placement of a radiation source into the body, near the malignant tumor. This treatment method is effectively used in patients with cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, and vaginal cancer.
In 2019, the brachytherapy center, part of the radiation therapy department, received unique HDR-BRAVOS equipment produced by Varian. This radiation therapy system is the most advanced in the world.
Right now, HDR-BRAVOS is only used for treatment of gynecologic tumors. Higher precision and safety of the procedure are the main advantages of the innovational equipment:
- HDR-BRAVOS is fitted with a LED system of radiation precision control. It allows the doctor to control the precision of radiation and monitor the patient by looking at the screen.
- Insertion of an applicator with radioactive material is remote: the device puts the applicator into the tumor at predetermined depth and then removes it without a radiologist. Thus, neither doctor nor patient gets exposed to unnecessary amounts of radiation.
The reliability and accuracy of the HDR-BRAVOS system have been proved in clinical trials.
- Laparoscopic Procedures
Laparoscopy is one of the minimally invasive, or so-called “keyhole”, surgical methods. It involves operating through small punctures with the help of a specialized endoscopy technique. Laparoscopic surgical interventions are performed through punctures in the abdominal wall. Surgery is commonly used for the following conditions:
- Uterine fibroids;
- Ovarian cyst removal;
- Abnormal menstrual bleeding;
- Pelvic pain of unknown origin.
In gynecology, laparoscopy is used with both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
In the Top Ichilov Clinic, laparoscopic procedures are performed using either traditional methodology or latest-generation Da Vinci Xi surgical robot.
- SILS Surgery
The clinic’s specialists perform both conventional laparoscopic procedures through 3-4 punctures and newest SILS surgery (single incision laparoscopic surgery). This approach involves using special laparoscopic tools. They are different from the ones used in conventional laparoscopy.
In comparison with regular laparoscopy, the SILS procedure has a significant advantage: better cosmetic effect. The incision near the navel is inconspicuous, and there are no other scars. Clinical trials confirm the safety of the SILS technology in gynecologic surgery.
- Minimally Invasive Hysterectomy
Hysterectomy is surgical removal of the uterus. It is commonly used for uterine cancer and cervical cancer. The Top Ichilov surgeons try to avoid open surgery and perform hysterectomy using minimally invasive methods:
A transvaginal hysterectomy involves removal of the uterus through an incision in the upper part of the vagina. This surgical procedure takes about 1 hour and is done under general, local, or epidural anesthesia.
Israel became the 4th country in the world to start in vitro fertilization (IVF). Israeli doctors have been performing this procedure for 37 years. At present, 4.3% of children in Israel are born thanks to IVF. It is the highest rate in the world; even in the developed countries of Western Europe, the number of IVF babies does not exceed 2%. About 4,000 IVF children have been born in the Top Ichilov Clinic’s IVF department alone.
In 2012, the IVF department was equipped with EmbryoScopes, state-of-the-art devices for culturing embryos. They increased the effectiveness of the procedure manifold. The device consists of a modern incubator that creates a convenient environment for embryo growth, and a powerful microscope connected to the computer. Earlier, specialists had to remove embryos from the comfortable incubator environment to monitor their growth. Now, the doctor can always see pictures of the embryos on the computer screen. This allows for 24-hour embryo growth monitoring in the sparing regime, with no risk of damage to the embryos.
The clinic offers preimplantation testing of the embryos that helps avoid giving birth to a baby with congenital defects. The IVF department also offers cryopreservation of eggs or embryos; this procedure allows having children at an older age. Frozen eggs and embryos can be stored for a few years and even decades.
